The South Texas Colonias Initiative, a community co-sponsor of the upcoming Sunset Community Forum in Corpus Christi, has been trying to clean up the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for a while. In this article by the Dallas Morning News, Stephanie Elizondo Griest tours the colonias with Lionel and Juanita Lopez and tells their story.
In their work to improve the conditions of people living in the colonias, they started calling on the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), demanding that area creeks and water wells be tested for toxins.
The Lopezes will be bringing their experiences with the TCEQ to the Sunset Community Forum in Corpus Christi on October 7th, at the Del Mar Economic Development Center.
